The Cougar Rocketry Team held five outreach events for the 2008 SLI.

In order to raise money and distribute Quest Starhawk rockets to school age children, the team traveled to the Greensburg Sam's Club located on Route 30. Approximately $350 was raised on the frigid and windy day as well as 50 Starhawks being given away.

The second outreach took the team to the West Newton Giant Eagle.  Mr. Bingey donated $100 worth of Giant Eagle gift cards to the team for the Chinese auction.  Another 25 Starhawks were given away.  $267 was raised during the event.

During Engineers Week, the team journeyed to the Walt Mill Westinghouse plant where the team was taken on tours of the facility and treated to breakfast and lunch.  Kathy Szlis arranged for the team to set up TARC and SLI displays so the engineers from Westinghouse could discuss "Project Dorothy" with members of the team.  This was one of many "thank you" opportunities that the team provided to Westinghouse.

Pork and Cabbage was provided by the Llama's Club of Latrobe when the team had the opportunity to speak at the Easter Llama's dinner.  The Llama's had heard of the Cougar Rocketry Team through Donald L. Gilbert, Jr.'s father, Mr. Gilbert and were therefore invited to present the experiment at an after dinner program.  Llama's members purchased Chinese auction tickets and the club made a $50 donation.

To conclude the outreach for 2008, the Cougar Rocketry Team held a rocket fair at the high school.  Weather was not cooperating for the event as the field started out covered in frost, which soon turned to mud.  The temperatures never made it beyond 45 degrees, which helped keep people away.  In any case, several flights were made with Starhawks brought back by children in the area and a few practice TARC flights were made, one landing in a tree and another finding total devastation as it lawn darted into a parking lot.  Hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and cookies were had by all.  More Chinese auction tickets were sold for about $175, which resulted in a $25 loss on the day since the food and supplies cost $200.  Winners of the Chinese auction were drawn as well.

The team estimates that the Chinese auction earned them about $1000 overall.  This is equivalent to selling 50 boxes of candy.
